One of ten regional HCA Midwest hospitals, Research Medical Center boasts a comprehensive list of services dedicated to improving human life. The current Research Medical Center facility was opened in 1963 and hosts 590 beds and 2,700 employees. . In alignment with their vision to be a premier healthcare destination, Research began implementing aesthetic and infrastructure improvements.

Henderson Building Solutions was asked to assess the two pairs of air handling units (AHUs) that serve the patient rooms and administrative spaces in the campus’s South Tower. All of the units were at the end of their useful life and needed to be replaced. In order to maintain consistent operation, a temporary AHU was set and the existing AHUs were replaced one-by-one.

Each unit’s replacement included new piping, connecting ductwork and incorporated direct digital controls. In addition to replacing equipment, Henderson also modified the emergency power system to serve the new air handlers.
