During the completion of the 39 gate, 1,000,000 SF project at Kansas City International Airport, Henderson Building Solutions provided fire alarm commissioning services for the new single terminal. Henderson Engineers provided a number of services on the project, including fire & life safety, that led to Henderson Building being brought on to test that the systems function properly. The following devices were included in our testing:

Smoke detectors

Heat detectors

Duct detectors

Test switches

PAD trouble

Relay modules

Baggage claim shutdown

Misc. input

Sequence of Operation

Lighting controls

Fire alarm priority test

Notification Appliance Circuit System

Commissioning verified the sequence of operations for the devices and systems referenced above. A 24-hour emergency power battery backup test was conducted to ensure proper functionality and duration were achieved. Some challenges included the quick turnaround required as well as multiple failures that had to be rectified and retested. Schedule flexibility and the ability to respond on short notice led to the success of the project.
