Lenexa Justice Center

The City of Lenexa embarked on a mission to enhance collaboration between its divisions by constructing a state-of-the-art Justice Center, bringing together the Lenexa Police Department and the Municipal Court under one roof. Henderson Engineers provided building system design, while Henderson Building Solutions provided commissioning on the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems and performed Black Site Testing to confirm all electrical systems were up and operational in the event of a power grid outage.
During the commissioning phase, we faced significant challenges with construction and site conditions, which compressed the schedule notably. However, the team swiftly mobilized by deploying numerous technicians to work efficiently and effectively. The mechanical, electrical, and plumbing testing was particularly challenging as it had to be completed while the client was moving into the space. This required obtaining escorts and background checks, given the sensitive nature of the client's operations. Despite these obstacles, the team collaborated closely with trade partners, forming and executing strategies within tight timelines. Additionally, we worked closely with our colleagues at Henderson Engineers to address questions surrounding the emergency testing and operations system, ensuring that the City of Lenexa was intimately familiar with its features.
