Henderson Building Solutions Welcomes New Lead Commissioning Agent

LENEXA, Kan. — Henderson Building Solutions, the construction management subsidiary of Henderson Engineers, is proud to announce the hiring of Travis Short as lead commissioning agent. Short, a licensed Professional Engineer, brings more than two decades of experience to the role, including 16 years in management and leadership positions.

Short is responsible for reviewing designs before construction projects begin and assessing building systems for functionality and durability once projects are completed. Part of this is ensuring equipment is accurately installed, is functioning appropriately, and can be maintained long-term. Furthermore, Short will evaluate existing buildings for operational efficiency as part of Henderson Building’s retro-commissioning service.

“We’re excited to welcome Travis to our team and are looking forward to his contributions and leadership on projects,” said Steve Hancock, managing director at Henderson Building. “He brings a wealth of industry knowledge and commissioning expertise that will be invaluable in delivering quality work for our clients.”

Previously, Short served as president at sys-tek, a commissioning and engineering design firm. In addition to concurrently managing branch locations in Blue Springs, Mo., Houston, and Long Beach, Calif., he oversaw business forecasting, business development, and employee management. Prior to his tenure as president, he led sys-tek’s commissioning team for 12 years as the company’s director of commissioning and vice president of operations.

“I worked with Henderson on school projects in the past and admired the firm’s collaborative approach, so it’s an honor to be part of such a great culture,” said Short. “I enjoy coming up with solutions for design and operational challenges, and I’m eager to enhance our offerings by tapping into the knowledge I’ve accrued over time. Not only am I excited to make a difference for the industries we already serve, I’d love to grow our presence within sectors like pharmaceuticals and data centers, which I have substantial experience in.”

Short earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Missouri University of Science & Technology in Rolla, Mo. He is an NEBB certified professional in commissioning and HVAC testing, adjusting, and balancing (TAB). This recognizes him as highly skilled in measuring the efficiency of building systems and providing customized solutions for clients.
