Third-Party Inspections and Plan Review Offered by Henderson

At Henderson Engineers and Henderson Building Solutions, we believe in continually finding ways to help solve our client’s challenges so they can be successful, especially when it comes to third-party inspections, plan review, and commissioning. The COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent quarantine has complicated projects in many ways, including the availability of the building and fire department resources for plan review, construction inspections, and commissioning.

We recognized a long time ago the need in the facilities industry for the unique services that support the risk management and related goals of today’s property owners, managers, architects, and design teams. Our experience base in the services described below is both broad and deep.

Whether it’s efficiency or the desire for a more economically viable way to get reviews and inspections completed, Henderson offers owners the most practical option. We are able to provide third-party services including third-party plan review, inspection, code consulting, and commissioning immediately on a project-by-project basis to support resources impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic or for as an ongoing resource to keep project schedules on track and eliminate unnecessary delays. Through the years, we’ve worked with various authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs) on hundreds of projects and have established relationships and are highly respected by AHJs throughout the country. Furthermore, Henderson has systems in place to facilitate travel as necessary.

With more than 30 years as a leader in the industry, Henderson Engineers and Henderson Building Solutions have experience across all building systems including but not limited to HVAC, electrical, fire protection, forensics, and life safety. We offer depth and bandwidth across all market sectors and our experienced staff has credentials including licensed fire protection engineers, fire protection system designers, NFPA-certified fire protection specialists, NICET certifications, CPSE – fire marshal designations, qualified commissioning professionals (QCxP), LEED AP – Green Building Certification Institute, Certified Energy Managers (CEM), and Certified Commissioning Authorities (CxA).

Additionally, Henderson features one of the largest fire protection teams in the industry with approximately 50 invaluable and tenured fire and life safety professionals who know design, code enforcement, and construction. We have industry-leading credentials, including former fire department and building officials, multiple NFPA and International Code Council (ICC) certifications and awards for thought leadership, and memberships on multiple code and standards technical committees.

  • Commissioning

Building commissioning is one of the best risk management strategies available. Regardless of whether a facility is new construction or under renovation, nothing is more important than constructability, functionality, energy efficiency, and maintainability of the space. Henderson Building Solutions specializes in commissioning and retro-commissioning for most major market sectors including healthcare, venue, workplace, K-12, retail, and higher education, and has the capacity to tackle projects of any size. The systems Henderson commissions include, but are not limited to:

    • Mechanical systems of all kinds and sizes
    • Electrical systems, both medium and low voltage, normal power, and emergency power
    • Plumbing systems of all types including site utilities
    • Elevator and other types of conveyance systems (pneumatic tube, for example)
    • Security systems, such as networked cameras, access control, egress control, and intrusion detection, as well as the cross-integration of these systems, and with life safety systems
    • Fire protection/life safety systems
    • Telecom/data distribution, fiber, and copper
  • Third-Party Inspections and Acceptance Testing

Henderson’s staff has a wide range of experience that can complete a wide range of third-party inspections and acceptance testing. This includes review of building code compliance, fire protection systems, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.

Our fire and life safety team can also perform National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) ITM (inspection, testing, and maintenance) inspections including underground fire lines.

  • General Code Consulting

We develop and evaluate code modification requests and can provide forensic fire & risk analysis. Our team can provide in-person or telephone consultation supported by technical reports and/or presentations, performance reports, and analysis.

  • Third-Party Plan Review

Our third-party plan review expertise covers building, fire and life safety, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing code compliance. It also encompasses fire protection systems, including smoke control and fire pumps.

  • Additional Services

Henderson also features the proficiency to execute accessibility evaluations, fire and egress modeling, fire protection system evaluations, third-party special inspections for fire stopping and spray applied fireproofing, hazardous materials analysis, high-pile storage protection review, and site development evaluations.
