When Kansas City University sought to remodel a 1,500-seat auditorium into an academic center, they engaged Henderson Building Solutions to ensure the new mechanical system functioned as intended and the building satisfied LEED Silver certification requirements.

The infill of the facility created two floors of educational spaces including: two lecture halls, seven break-out, conference-style classrooms, and two additional standard-style classrooms. The remodel of the academic center’s mechanical systems included the replacement of three roof top units to support the academic center’s new load and zoning requirements.

Additional improvements to the system included the reuse and reconfiguration of existing equipment, as well as an addition of new HVAC systems and controls to manage the building’s environment. The building is supported by existing and new rooftop packaged DX cooling/gas heating units.

Henderson Building provided both fundamental and enhanced technical commissioning services for the facility’s environmental control, lighting, and domestic water systems — assisting in the Center’s achievement of LEED Silver certification.
