Henderson Building Solutions provided an energy audit and retro-commissioning services to establish a new energy baseline for Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences’s developing campus. Our recent projects at KCUMB include:

The KCU Academic Center is a 2-story, 31,600 SF classroom facility that was renovated in 2014. The project included remodeling the Kansas City University Weaver Auditorium to create additional classroom space and improve the building’s mechanical systems. It included both reuse and reconfiguration of existing equipment, as well as the addition of new HVAC systems and new controls to manage the building’s environment. The building is supported by existing and new rooftop packaged DX cooling/gas heating units. Henderson provided both fundamental and enhanced technical commissioning services for the environmental control, lighting, and domestic water systems in this LEED certified renovation.

KCU’s Administration Center is a 56,000 SF academic office building supporting all administrative functions for the university. Henderson is currently under contract to provide fundamental and enhanced technical commissioning services for the environmental control, lighting, and domestic water systems in this LEED certified project. The project includes a VRF heat pump heating and cooling system for environmental controls and integrated building management controls.

Henderson was also contracted to perform a campus energy audit and retro-commissioning of the 12-building campus. The project included a facility condition assessment, detailed field investigations, implementation of no-cost and low-cost corrective actions, and the development of an implementation master plan for repair and renovation projects and future capital improvements to the campus. As a result, the university executed several energy conservation measures including the repair of defective HVAC components and automation of HVAC equipment. Our team also assisted the university in the installation and commissioning of the new controls system, and the acquisition of an energy rebate from Kansas City Power and Light to support the project financially.
